About This Recipe

This classic Thai basil chicken stir-fry is a hallmark of quick, vibrant street-food cookery. Characterized by its bold, fiery profile and herbaceous aroma, this dairy-free dish delivers a satisfying balance of savory, sweet, and spicy elements in under twenty minutes. Using ground chicken ensures the meat cooks rapidly while absorbing the intense seasonings, making it an exceptionally accessible option for weeknight meals.

The success of this preparation lies in the high-heat wok technique and the layering of robust flavors. Pounding the fresh garlic and Thai chilies together releases their essential oils, creating an aromatic foundation that infuses the cooking oil instantly. The savory depth of oyster, soy, and fish sauces is balanced by a touch of sugar, while adding the delicate Thai basil at the very end, off the heat, allows the leaves to wilt gently without losing their distinct anise-like fragrance.

For the best results, ensure all ingredients are prepped and measured before heating the wok, as the high-temperature cooking process moves very quickly. If Thai chilies are too fiery for your palate, you can easily adjust the heat level by reducing the number of peppers or removing their seeds before mincing.

To complete the traditional dining experience, serve this fragrant stir-fry hot over steamed jasmine rice. Topping each portion with a crispy, lacy-edged fried egg adds a rich, runny yolk that beautifully cuts through the heat and complements the savory sauce.
