About This Recipe

This quick and easy Vietnamese-style lemongrass tofu brings a vibrant balance of savory, sweet, and bright citrus flavors to your dinner table in just thirty-five minutes. This plant-based dish transforms humble firm tofu into a deeply aromatic centerpiece, drawing on classic Southeast Asian flavor profiles. By combining pungent garlic and fresh lemongrass with a savory-sweet glaze, the recipe delivers a satisfyingly complex taste with minimal effort.

The success of this preparation lies in the texture of the tofu and the layering of flavors in a single pan. Pressing the tofu to remove excess moisture is a crucial step, as it allows the cornstarch coating to adhere properly and crisp up beautifully during pan-frying. Utilizing the same pan to bloom the minced lemongrass and garlic in the residual oil ensures that the aromatic oils are fully released before being trapped in the quick soy and lime juice reduction.

For the best results, ensure your skillet is sufficiently hot before adding the coated tofu cubes, which prevents sticking and guarantees a golden, crunchy exterior on all sides. If you prefer a bit of heat, you can easily customize the dish by tossing in some sliced fresh chilies or a pinch of red pepper flakes along with the garlic and lemongrass.

Serve this fragrant, saucy tofu immediately over a generous bed of warm steamed rice to soak up the savory glaze, and garnish with the freshly sliced green onions for a bright, clean finish. Any leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, though the tofu is best enjoyed fresh when the contrast between the crispy exterior and the tender interior is at its peak.
